Comments: Known from Ducie, Henderson and Oeno (Ref. 121505). Museum: off Christian's Point, reef in 7.5 m, BPBM 16905 (holotype, 10.38 cm SL, male). Oeno Atoll, north side, AMS I.31222-001; BPBM 16457; BMNH 1991.5.20.4-6; CAS 76003; NSMT-P.34681; USNM 316516 (paratypes). Off the Rope, BPBM 16922. Reef on north side of Gannet Ridge, BPBM 16887. Also Ref. 41650.

Adults feed on zooplankton well above the substratum. They swim swiftly for cover from predators. The fleshy papillae at the posterior and ventral edge of the orbit may function to ensure smooth flow of water over the eye when swimming rapidly (Ref. 10668). Feeds on zooplanktons (Ref. 89972). Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205). Diurnal species (Ref. 54980).
