Comments: Considered as the most important fish of Lake Lanao and next to P. baoulan, is the most-prized cyprinid. Described specimens were collected from the type locality, Dansalan, Lake Lanao, Mindanao (1921). Once caught in enormous quantities using fine-meshed gill nets among pond weeds of shallow bays of the lake (Ref. 2929). Still caught in the lake from 1963 to 1964 (Ref. 10885). Still present in a 1982 survey (Ref. 12758), 1973-77, 1982-83, 1990-91 and 2008 surveys (Ref. 95183). No specimen was caught during the 1994 expedition (Ref. 10888). Dorsal spines (total): 3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 5. Preserved color dusky above, pale yellowish on sides and belly; colorless fins; scales with concentric striae. Eyes with gelatinous eyelid; blunt snout round- tipped, 3.5-4X in head. 11-13 scales between nape and dorsal; 3 scale rows between ventrals and lateral line.
