Comments: Recorded from Northland to Fiordland and the Chatham Is. (Ref. 9003). Also reported from Stewart Island (Ref. 45524). Common in some areas on the western coasts, but not recorded on the eastern coasts of both North and South Is. South of East Cape. Probably spawns from midwinter to late spring (Ref. 9003). Voucher specimen(s) held at the NMNZ (Ref. 5755).

Biologia     Glossário (ex. epibenthic)

Adults occur in rock pools and subtidal areas. They are found at exposed sites, usually near darker overhangs and walls among encrusting organisms (Ref. 9003). Eggs are hemispherical and covered with numerous sticky threads that anchor them in the algae on the nesting sites (Ref. 240). Larvae are planktonic which occur primarily in shallow, nearshore waters (Ref. 94114).
