Épines dorsales (Total) : 8; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 12 - 14; Épines anales: 2; Rayons mous anaux: 12 - 14. This species is distinguished by the following characters: D XIII,12-14 (usually 13); A II,12-14 (usually 13); pectoral rays 16-18 (usually 17); gill rakers on first branchial arch 4-6 + 11-13 = 16-19 (usually 17-18); tubed lateral-line scales 16-18 (usually 17). Colouration: alive it is overall pale yellow to whitish with dark bluish (nearly black) to grey region encompassing snout, upper head and adjacent anterodorsal part of body and spinous dorsal fin (Ref, 103843).
