Comments: Found in Bagmati, Gandaki, Kosi and Karnali zones at 76-1350 m altitudes (Ref. 9496). Also occurs in rivers of Kamala and Mahakali (Ref. 85009). Food fish not valued by upper and middle class people but preferred by local population. Also Ref. 4833, 6351, 41236. State of Threat: Conservation dependent and uncommon or lower risk least concern species (Ref. 85009).

A rudimentary dorsal fin originates a little anterior to vertical from anus. Presence of numerous spots all over tail.

Obligate air-breathing (Ref. 126274); Adults known to hibernate in mud during cold season (Ref. 6351). Feed mainly on small fishes, tadpoles and aquatic insects (Ref. 6351). The male guards and builds nest or burrow (Ref. 205).
