背面の脊椎 (合計): 8; 背鰭 (合計): 18-19; 肛門の骨 1; 臀鰭: 18 - 20. Distinguished by the following characteristics: general body color is light grey-brown, typically have areas of very bright iridescent blue and/or yellow; body is laterally compressed; large, nearly vertical mouth; completely scaled body; first dorsal with VII spines; ventral fins are united (Ref. 92840).
Found on shallow, muddy or sandy bottoms, near islands . Takes refuge in holes. Does not appear to reach 6.5 cm TL.
