Comments: A lessepsian migrant, first recorded in Herzeliya, Mediterranean coast of Israel in 1991 (Ref. 37421, 72453). Museum: Herzliya, Israel Mediterranean, HUJ 15203 (32.8 SL); Aqaba, Red Sea , HUJ 3406 (19.6 SL); Eilat, HUJ 5530 (21 SL); El-Arqana, HUJ 14675 (11.1-14 SL) (Ref. 37421). Entered the Mediterranean Sea as a Lessepsian migrant via the Suez Canal from the Red Sea (Ref. 55395).

Espinhos dorsais (total) : 13; Raios dorsais (total) : 9 - 11; Espinhos anais: 3; Raios anais : 6 - 7. Reddish to tan or grey in color, with numerous thin dark bars on body and head; tentacle above eye may be faintly banded (Ref. 4313). Adults have a band of small spines along the cheek and small spots in the median fins (Ref. 48635).

Adults are found in coastal waters in muddy habitats (Ref. 48635). Minimum depth of 0m (Ref. 81209). Fin spines highly venomous, may cause human death (Ref. 30573).
