Comments: Type locality of the lectotype of Xenocharax spilurus: 'Gaboon: Ogowe basin: Lake Zile, ±0°41'S 10°17'E' (Ref. 93570; lectotype by Ref. 114931). Known from Ogowe River basin (Ref. 80286, 81638, 114931) and Nyanga River (Ref. 81638, 114931).

Épines dorsales (Total) : 0; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total) : 19 - 24; Épines anales: 0; Rayons mous anaux: 13 - 17. Diagnosis: two rows of teeth in upper jaw and 3 in lower jaw; completely pored lateral line with 63-75 lateral line scales; total of 19-24 rays in dorsal fin and 13-17 rays in anal fin; 13-16 scales between dorsal fin origin and lateral line (Ref. 81638).
