Comments: Known from Benue River (Ref. 2915, 51193), Lake Chad (Ref. 51193) and Congo River basin (Ref. 51193). Report of C. tamandua from the Sanaga in Pappenheim (1907) based on an emaciated rhynchophorus with the snout much longer than in any tamandua according to Ref. 42510, but rhynchophorus considered endemic to the Congo basin in several sources (eg. Ref. 83752).

पृष्ठीय रीढ़ (सम्पूर्ण): 0; पृष्ठीय सौफट रेज़ (सम्पूर्ण): 28-31; गुदा कांटा 0; ऐनल सौफट रेज़: 31 - 35. Young with dark band across body between anterior end of dorsal and anal which widens in the center and surrounded by a clear zone on each side in the form of a parenthesis; first dorsal and anal ray marked with black; this coloration disappears in individuals > 20 cm; Dorsal origin behind origin of anal fin; body depth 3.9-4.7 x SL; head length 3-5 x SL; head 2.3-3.3x longer than large.

Its electric organ discharge (EOD) is steroid-sensitive (Ref. 10763; 10764).
