Comments: Occurs in the Mekong basin (Ref. 12693). Observed in small numbers in non-reproductive condition at Stung Treng in February 1994 (Ref. 10431). Below the Khone Falls, this species migrates upstream from the Kandal Province to the Khone Falls, mainly triggered by receding water levels at the end of the flood season (Ref. 37770). From Thalabowirrat in Stung Treng Province to the Mekong Delta, a downstream reproductive migrations occur at the onset of the flood season, triggered by a combination of early rainfall and rising water levels (Ref. 37770). Espinhos dorsais (total) : 2; Raios dorsais moles (total) : 6 - 8; Espinhos anais: 0; Raios anais moles: 30 - 33. Body elongated, intermediate predorsal length (30.1-33.9% SL). Short snout length (35.2-42.8% HL). Long caudal peduncle (17.6-21.4% SL). Short mandibular barbels (length 10.4-39.3% HL). Large eyes (19.2-25.5% HL) (Ref. 46915).

Obligate air-breathing in the genus (Ref. 126274); An omnivorous fish, feeding mainly on benthic animals such as mollusks and crustaceans. During rainy seasons, Mekong specimens feed on fruits and various debris (Ref. 46915). A single 63 cm SL gravid female was observed at Ban Hang Khone in Laos (Ref. 9497). Marketed fresh (Ref. 12693).
