Comments: Found in the mouths of rivers and inland lagoons of Belize. Reported from Río Papaloápan, Alvarado, Veracruz and Mexico (Ref. 30499). Also known from Bacalar Chico Marine Reserve, Turneffe Atoll, South Water Cay Marine Reserve, Sapodilla Cays and Snake Cays. This was observed as a rare species in Belize (Ref. 128811).

Adults inhabit tidal creeks, mangroves and other quiet, fresh to fully saline coastal waters (Ref. 7251) with salinity ranging from 0.0 to 39.3 ppt (Ref. 97140). Opportunistic feeder, ingests diverse crustaceans, molluscs and barnacles, greatest part of their food comprises algae (Ref. 92840)
