Etymology: Torpedo: Latin, torpere = be sluggish (Ref. 45335);  bauchotae: Named for M.-L. Bauchot, curator of the MNHN fish collection in Paris (Ref. 39215).

Rückenflossenstacheln (insgesamt): 0; Afterflossenstacheln 0; Afterflossenweichstrahlen: 0; Wirbelzahl: 109. Disc-width larger than its length, width and length about 1,40 to 1,60 times in total length; dorsal fins rounded; dorsal side buff or rosy ochre with darker and lighter spots, ventral side is uniform rosy white (Ref. 39215).
