Etymology: Potamotrygon: Greek, potamos = river + Greek, trygon = a sting ray (Ref. 45335);  garmani: Named for Samuel Walton Garman (1843-1927), an American naturalist who greatly contributed to the development of Zoology, especially Herpetology and Ichthyology, in the U.S.A. His research on sharks and rays remain among the most impressive and important contributions to the field.
