Head relatively short, never observed with nuchal hump; eye small, adipose eyelid distinct; snout length always greater than eye diameter; upper jaw or snout projecting slightly in large males
Occurs in near-shore coastal waters, open water of lakes and small to large rivers, and often in current in rivers. Belongs to C. clupeaformis complex (Ref. 5723). Anadromous (Ref. 5951).
