Etymology: Stenogobius: Greek, stenos = narrow + Latin, gobius = gudgeon (Ref. 45335);  hoesei: Named in honor of Douglass F. Hoese for his contributions to gobioid systematics and for his encouragement throughout the course of this study..

Kurzbeschreibung Morphologie | Morphometrie

Rückenflossenstacheln (insgesamt): 7; Rückenflossenweichstrahlen (insgesamt): 10-12; Afterflossenstacheln 1; Afterflossenweichstrahlen: 11 - 12. Predorsal midline almost always with naked patches, four to 18 scales; pectoral base almost always naked; opercle almost always naked, breast naked, third and fourth spines of 1st dorsal fin may be slightly filamentous on males, body anteriorly, head and pectoral fins dusky in both sexes.
