Elasmobranchii (sharks and rays) > Rajiformes
(Skates and rays) > Rajidae
Etymology: Dipturus: Greek, di = two + Greek, pteryx = fin (Ref. 45335). More on authors: Beebe & Tee-Van.
Environment: milieu / climate zone / depth range / distribution range
Marine; demersal. Tropical; 0°N - 4°S, 83°W - 79°W (Ref. 114953)
Southeast Pacific: known from the type locality, San Helena Bay, Ecuador.
Size / Weight / Age
Maturity: Lm ?  range ? - ? cm
Max length : 39.0 cm TL male/unsexed; (Ref. 114953)
A demersal species with unknown depth distribution but presumably inhabits outer continental shelf and/or upper slope (Ref. 114953). Oviparous (Ref. 50449). Eggs have horn-like projections on the shell (Ref. 205). Length of specimen (39 cm TL) was based on a young male observed to have developed state of thorn patches on pectoral fins, and presumambly approaching maturity (Ref. 114953).
Life cycle and mating behavior
Maturity | Reproduction | Spawning | Eggs | Fecundity | Larvae
Oviparous, paired eggs are laid. Embryos feed solely on yolk (Ref. 50449).
