Etymology: Paramormyrops: Greek, para = near + Greek, mormyros = a fish (Sparus sp) (Ref. 45335).
More on author: Günther.

Issue
According to Hopkins et al. (Ref. 81635) this species is a Lower Guinea endemic and should be placed in the genus Paramormyrops at species level, but they ignore the fact that there is also a subspecies in West Africa, Brienomyrus kingsleyae eburneensis, whose taxonomic status is now uncertain (Boden, pers. comm.).

Kurzbeschreibung Morphologie | Morphometrie

Rückenflossenstacheln (insgesamt): 0; Rückenflossenweichstrahlen (insgesamt): 17-18; Afterflossenstacheln 0; Afterflossenweichstrahlen: 22 - 25. Body depth 4.2-5.0 x SL. Eye small, 6.4-8.3 x head length. Head length 4.5-5.3 x SL. Dorsal fin base 5.8-7.0 x SL, origin behind origin of anal fin. Dorsal base to anal base ratio 0.7-0.9. Pectoral shorter than head, 1.4-1.7 x pelvic fin length. Clear brown color.
