Spine dorsali (totale): 0; Raggi dorsali molli (totale): 9-11; Spine anali 0; Raggi anali molli: 7 - 8; Vertebre: 40 - 43. Anterior interorbital laterosensory pore well separated from the posterior nostril. Usually 2 pairs of pores below the lower jaw. Short gill rakers.
Facultative air-breathing in the genus (Ref. 126274); Lives on rocky shores of lakes. Bottom-dweller of upland lakes and associated streams, frequently under and around rocks on gravel substrates (Ref. 44894). Feeds on insects, small crustaceans and mollusks.
