Épines dorsales (Total): 3; Rayons mous dorsaux (Total): 7-8; Épines anales 3; Rayons mous anaux: 5. Body slender; the third simple ray of the dorsal is slender and flexible.

Inhabits small streams and the larger river systems with or without aquatic weeds (Ref. 13337). Favors slow-flowing streams with vegetation (Ref. 7248). Forms shoals and undertakes seasonal movements up tributaries and onto floodplains (Ref. 13337).
