পৃষ্ঠীয় কাঁটা (মোট ): 3; পৃষ্ঠীয় নরম পাখনা দন্ড (মোট ): 7-8; পায়ূ কাঁটা 3; পায়ূর নরম পাখনা্তুন্ড: 5. Body slender; the third simple ray of the dorsal is slender and flexible.

Inhabits small streams and the larger river systems with or without aquatic weeds (Ref. 13337). Favors slow-flowing streams with vegetation (Ref. 7248). Forms shoals and undertakes seasonal movements up tributaries and onto floodplains (Ref. 13337).
