Eastern Central Atlantic: found only in the Mauritanian Upwelling Region (20°N-5°N), mainly east of 30°W, and in the Guinean Province south to about 16°S in the Angola Current, but to about 3°S in the region of 20°W. Specimens reported from the western tropical Atlantic off eastern Brazil are regarded as waifs.

Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 14-16; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 17 - 20; Vertebrae: 35 - 36. 13-14 AO photophores; 9-10 tooth patches on the lower limb of the second gill arch; 34-36 lateral line organs (Ref. 36121).
