| External pigment about uniform on trunk and tail, caudal peduncle only slightly less pigmented; pectoral fins with clear band proximally only, clear distal patch or band lacking; pair of barbels form on mandible at 9-11 mm, initially as flat, broad-based simple flaps, meet and fuse mesially by about 21 mm, become fimbriate. Pigmentation: Larvae: heavy on trunk and tail except slightly lighter on caudal peduncle; series along lateral midline; heavy on gut; heavy on head except lighter ventrally; none on dorsal fins before about 10 mm, then distal blotch in middle of fin, spreading to cover fin by about 18 mm; none on anal fin until about 18 mm; initially only on upper pectoral fin rays, spreading ventrad, primarily distally, to cover upper 75% by about 10 mm; more or less clear band persists proximally. Sequence of fin development: caudal and dorsal and anal and pectorals and pelvics. | ||||
