Comments: Spawning occurs in the headwaters of rivers. The eggs require a water temperature of ~10° C for proper fertilization. Forty days later the water temperature can be lowered to ~8° C for an additional 60 to 90 days before the hatching occurs. Larvae live 1.5-2.0 years in rivers and go to the ocean in October through September; mature adults return 3 or 4 years later to freshwater rivers to spawn and then die.
