Comments: Viviparous with a yolk-sac placenta; larger females carry more young; off South Africa young are usually born in the autumn although some may be born in winter; off Senegal young are born in summer while in the Gulf of Mexico off Florida and Louisiana young are born in spring to early summer; gestation period of 12 to 15 months; size at birth about 60 to 75 cm.
