Remarks Abstract. The objective of the work was to analyze and to document the acclimatization to the captivity of the black snook of the Tropical Eastern Pacific, Centropomus nigrescens, in earth ponds in the coastal plain of the State of Michoacán, México, as a contribution directed toward generating the bases for its culture. A first lot of youthful was integrated of the species from the collection of fingerlings in the delta of the Balsas river (18°02'05.66"N and 102°10'44.93"W), in the bordering zone between the states of Michoacán and Guerrero, Mexico, carrying out two phases of growth. A one first in fresh water and final phase in brackish water to 22‰, from which information was obtained on the location of the sites for the collection of the organisms, quality of the water, conditions in the transport, confinement in earth ponds, identification of the specie, feeding, growth and survival. From the collection of 198 fingerlings of 5-7 cm of T.L. in the left arm of the Balsas river in a period the month of November of 2004 between June of 2008, integrated a lot of 29 youthful ones in a phase of end of confinement in brackish water in a rustic pond in Boca de Apiza, Mich. The reached results show C. nigrescens as a species with attributes for its culture, between which they stand out the facility for the collection of fingerlings in the Balsas river, the adaptability for his handling and growth in ponds of fresh water to values of: 27.5°C, 5.38 mg/L of dissolved oxygen, 0.2‰ of salinity, pH of 8.0, 95 mg/L of total alkalinity, 153 mg/L of total hardness and 0.051 mg/L of unionized ammonium; the feasibility in the use of benzocaína to 60 mg/L for the total sedation and the handling of the organisms, and its adaptability and resistance to the handling with networks. One also identified the feasibility for the capture and acclimatization of adult organism in the zone of the mouth of the Balsas river, the high degree of adaptability of the species to ample variations of salinity (from 25.0 ppt to 0.2 ppt and from 0.2 ppt to 22.0 ppt in two hours, at different moments), resistance to the handling and feasibility for its transportation to rates of 11.6 kg of biomass/m3 by space of 5 hours to a temperature of 27.0°C. Given these qualities and the high value that obtains this species in the national and international market, is considered necessary to continue with the process of maturation in brackish water, to value the conditions of its protandrism and maturation and for integrating a lot of reproducers that allows to advance to the stages of reproduction, raising and gets fat, to obtain the technological dominion for its culture.
