Originally as hisutch; kisutch is generally used (but probably incorrectly, but should be retained following the 4th edition (1999) of the Code of Zoological Nomenclature), apparently after Pennant's name *kysutch* (Ref. 84081). |
Etymology of generic noun |
Greek, onyx, -ychos = nail + Greek, rhyngchos = snout (Ref. 45335). |
Etymology of specific epithet |
Most probably a typo in the emendada p720 for kisutch, which is the vernacular name of this fish in Kamtchatka (Ref. 1998). |
