Comments: Introduced for ornamental purposes (Ref. 48787) as well as a biocontrol agent. Impacts on Australian endemic fishes have not been studied although where guppies and Gambusia affinis holbrooki are abundant, endemic fishes are rare (Ref. 12257). Accidentally released from aquaria and populations are occurring in urban streams throughout coastal Queensland. Also Ref. 12559.     Ref:  McKay, R.J., 1989
