Max. size:  32 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 600.0 g
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 1 - 50 m,
Distribution:  Southwest Pacific: around New Zealand only.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits coastal waters down to about 50 m (Ref. 9258). Juveniles gather in sheltered inshore waters, such as estuarine areas, shallow mudflats and sandflats, where they remain for up to two years (Ref. 9072).

Country info:  Occurs throughout New Zealand (Ref. 9258). Recorded from bottom trawls off the east coast of South Island (Ref. 58461). Landed throughout the year (Ref. 9258). Voucher specimen(s) held at the NMNZ. Also Ref. 9072.
