Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: mountain tributaries of the Gourits and Keurbooms River systems, Cape Province, South Africa.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits pools in clear, flowing Fold Mountain streams. Feeds off the substrate on algae, detritus and bottom-living and other invertebrates. Breeds in summer (Ref. 7248).

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Occurs in mountain tributaries of the Gourits and Keurbooms systems, southern Cape. Populations are threatened by water extraction and alien predators such as bass and trout. Also Ref. 3881, 27553, 13332.
