Petrocephalus haullevillii Boulenger, 1912

Environment:  demersal; freshwater,
Distribution:  Africa: Kouilou-Niari (Ref. 53765) and Chiloango River basins (Ref. 41597). Report from the Ubangi River (middle Congo River basin) (Ref. 94857) questionable and needs confirmation. Presence in some swamps and minor tributaries of the Congo River estuary tentatively confirmed (Ref. 12818).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 18-21; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 26-28. Petrocephalus haullevillii is distinguished from P. congicus by the absence of a rosette of electroreceptor organs above the eye (Ref. 91771). Teeth bicuspid, 11-14 in upper jaw and 16-18 in lower jaw (Ref. 41597).

Country info:  Known from the Chiloango River (Ref. 41597). Identification of specimens in the MRAC from swamps and some minor tributaries of the Congo River estuary tentatively confirmed (T. Musschoot, pers. comm.). Type locality of some syntypes of Petrocephalus haullevillii: 'dans le Chiloango à Mayili et dans la Luculla' (Ref. 41597).
