Family:  Acanthuridae (Surgeonfishes, tangs, unicornfishes), subfamily: Nasinae
Max. size:  49 cm SL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 2,250.0 g
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range - 15 m
Distribution:  Western Pacific: Taiwan and Indonesia.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 5-5; Dorsal soft rays (total): 29-29; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 27-27; Vertebrae: 21-21. Protuberance or horn on forehead or snout absent. Convex head with slight angularity before eye. Anterior interorbital space and adjacent internarial space strongly elevated with a rounded median ridge. Body depth 3.1-3.2 in SL. Two keeled peduncular plates on each side, keels not large nor antrorse. Dorsal fin not elevated, first dorsal spine longest, 2.8 in HL. Emarginate caudal fin.

Country info:  Type locality, middle of bay directly E of fishing boat harbor at Houpihu, S end at Nanwan, BPBM 23428 (holotype of Naso reticulatus, 49 cm SL, male) (Ref. 39638). Also Ref. 37792.
