Distribution:  Africa: middle Congo River (Ref. 2988) up to the upper Lualaba (Ref. 45616), including the Ubangi (Ref. 45441) and Kasai (Ref. 41591) drainages, in Democratic Republic of the Congo. Report from the Sanaga (Ref. 51193) questionable and unconfirmed (Ref. 81639).

Type locality of the syntypes of Barilius weynsii: 'Haut-Congo, between New Antwerp (=Makanza) and Stanley Falls' (Ref. 1879). Also Ref. 2801.
