Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: Sanaga basin, Kelle River (Nyong River tributary) and Dja River (middle Congo River basin) in Cameroon (Ref. 81639).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 1-1; Dorsal soft rays (total): 11-13; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Diagnosis: mouth subinferior; one pair of barbels, as long as eye diameter (Ref. 81639). Description: medium-sized species, body compressed; lower lip continuous; scales longitudinally striated; scale formula: 4.5/26/4.5/2.5/12; D: III-IV, 9-10; A: III, 5; P: 18; V: 10; lateral line complete; dorsal fin with feeble concave border, last simple ray strong and ossified, not serrated, as long as or longer than head (Ref. 81639). Coloration: ground color brown, darker dorsally, paler ventrally, with metallic silver reflections on flanks; pectoral and pelvic fins grey (Ref. 81639).

Country info:  Known from the Sanaga River basin (Ref. 27691, 81639), including its tributaries Mbam, Djerem and Lom, in the Kelle River (Nyong River tributary) (Ref. 81639) and in the Dja River (middle Congo River basin) (Ref. 1880, 51193, 81639). Type-locality of the holotype of Barbus habereri: 'Dscha, eines sekundären Nebenflusses des Congo im Bezirke Molundu des südlichen Kamerun' (Ref. 52340).
