Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: Tocantins River, above Tucurui dam in Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Head and body deep; short head, 4.1-4.6 times in SL. Body and head yellow to brown , inconspicuously dotted. Ventral surface of head and upper lip darker than the rest of the uniformly, plain yellow body. Abdomen densely plated, plates reduced in size. Pectoral spine short, 3.9 - 4.5 times in SL. Keeled lateral plates, 29-30. Supraopercle not covered by skin. Rictal barbels reduced and attached to the lower lip by a short membrane.

Country info:  Found in the Tocantins River (Ref. 36389). Only collected from the rapids above Tucurui, in the area now flooded by the dam (Ref. 40703). Also Ref. 36389.
