Family:  Muraenidae (Moray eels), subfamily: Muraeninae
Max. size:  91.5 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range - 40 m
Distribution:  Southwest Pacific: New Zealand, Kermadec Island and southern Australia.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Stays in holes and crevices. Feeds mainly on crabs and fish (Ref. 26966).

Threat to humans:  harmless
