Family:  Pomacentridae (Damselfishes), subfamily: Chrominae
Max. size:  5.78 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 90 - 130 m
Distribution:  Western Pacific: the Philippines.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 13-13; Dorsal soft rays (total): 10-12; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 11-12; Vertebrae: 25-25. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the following characters: D XIII,10-12; A II,11-12; pectoral-fin rays 18; procurrent caudal-fin rays 3; tubed lateral-line scales 16; gill rakers 7 + 16-19 (= 23-26); body depth 1.9-2.0 in SL. Colour of adults when fresh yellowish with dark black margins on dorsal and anal fins (Ref. 120230).

Country info:  Type locality of Chromis hangganan, Lubang Island, Occidental Mindoro. Despite dives in several sites of the Verde Island Passage, this species has not been collected outside of Lubang Island, the environment of which differs from the other survey sites in the Verde Island Passage by having more exposed and clearer oceanic waters and probably due to its proximity to the South China Sea (Ref. 120230).
