Max. size:  89.2 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 10 - 116 m
Distribution:  Southeast Pacific and Southwest Atlantic.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 1-1. Pectorals very large (Ref. 27363).
Biology:  Occurs in sandy and muddy substrates. Apparently associated with Stromateus brasiliensis and Discopyge tschudii (Ref. 34015). Oviparous (Ref. 50449). Max length (Itamar Alves Martins, pers. comm., 2002).
IUCN Red List Status: Vulnerable (VU); Date assessed: 02 September 2019 (A2d) Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Occurs in the Patagonian region (Ref. 27363). Reported from Puerto España (Argentine sector of the Beagle Channel); pecimens 43 cm TL male and 50 cm female caught at 15 m depth by trawling nets (Ref. 34015). Also Ref. 58839.
