Family:  Ipnopidae (Deep-sea tripod fishes), subfamily: Ipnopinae
Max. size:  11.7 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 3300 - 5782 m
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: east of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge between 30° to 0°N; also off Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Western Atlantic: west of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge in the Guiana Basin.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 8-10; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 12-15. Body with 6-8 dark pigment bands (Ref. 5320).
Biology:  Depth range also reported at 4250 m-5700 m (Ref. 6688). Rare, probably solitary. Feeds on small benthopelagic crustaceans (Ref. 6688).
