Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Labeoninae
Max. size:  43 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater,
Distribution:  Africa: Lake Rukwa system (Ref. 27292) and the Malagarasi River (Ref. 27292, 57618).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Lives on the bottom (Ref. 4967). Mud and vegetable debris found in stomach; caught near shores and in open water (Ref. 98757). Seems to feed mainly on aufwuchs and plants, but probably takes small animals such as insects as well; nothing is known about the breeding habits (Ref. 27292). May ascend rivers to spawn (Ref. 4967) but this has not been reported (Ref. 27292).

Country info:  Caught in Lake Rukwa system in the lake itself and the very lower reaches of some rivers (Ref. 27292) such as the Luika River (Ref. 98757). Reported from the Malagarazi River delta (Ref. 54847). Also Ref. 4967, 93960.
