Family:  Sparidae (Porgies)
Max. size:  36.6 cm TL (male/unsexed); max.weight: 525.0 g
Environment:  benthopelagic; marine; depth range - 30 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: Bay of Biscay, the Mediterranean, and from the Strait of Gibraltar to Angola. Also known from Madeira, Cape Verde and the Canary Islands.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Gregarious, forms aggregations over rocky bottoms or seagrass beds (Zostera and seaweeds). Omnivorous but feeds mainly on small invertebrates (Ref. 3688). Important food fish.
