Environment:  pelagic; freshwater; brackish
Distribution:  Asia: endemic to Apolyont Lake in Turkey.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Forms shoals at the water surface, feeding on pelagic crustaceans and cyprinid eggs (Ref. 12259).

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Known only from the Apolyont Lake (Ref. 58342). Also Ref. 106151. Relatively abundant in Lake Apolyont, but its population is threatened because of pollution from industrial effluents and domestic waste water from the town of Bursa (Ref. 12259). Threats include bycatch in fisheries, commercial exploiation and eutrophication (Ref. 58342), Also Ref. 12255, 26334. Status of threat: Endangered (Ref. 58342). nEurTurk.
