Distribution:  South America: Apparently endemic to the Marowijne River basin.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs in extensive shoals over sand or mud, in tributaries of rivers or in inundated areas of creeks with little current (Ref. 12225).

Country info:  Found in the Marowijne River basin (Ref. 38013). Museum: Litani R. near Kawatop Village, upper Marowijne R. system, Marowijne District, 3°11'N, 54°12'W, USNM 275000 (holotype of C. punctata, 2.59 cm SL) (Ref. 11334, 12965). Also Ref. 27925.
