Max. size:  20 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 60 - 596 m
Distribution:  Eastern Atlantic: including the western Mediterranean.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 8-8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 15-15; Anal soft rays: 15-15. Diagnosis: D1 VIII; D2 15; A 15; P 3 free + 6; V I + 5. Branchiostegal rays 6. Gill rakers 8. SLL (Ref. 55409).
Biology:  Inhabits sandy and muddy bottoms (Ref. 3699). Depth range from 60-250 m (Ref. 04697) and from 288-596 m in the eastern Ionian Sea (Ref. 56504). Feeds on crustaceans, mainly amphipods (Ref. 4697).

Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Caught northwest of Galicia (NW Spain). The northerly extension of distribution was attributed to ocean warming and the increasing number of immigrant species was significantly correlated with temperature increase in the North Atlantic over the last 40 years (Ref. 55409). Recorded from the Balearic Islands (Ref. 26178). Also Ref. 86578.
