Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater,
Distribution:  Africa: only known by the holotype from Lake Luhondo in Rwanda (Ref. 27626, 46152, 83445). Should be considered as extinct after introduction of tilapia and some Haplochromis in Lake Luhondo (Ref. 35818).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 4-4; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-9; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 5-5

Country info:  Type locality of the holotype of B. microbarbis: 'Lac Luhondo' (Ref. 41590). Only known from the holotype (Ref. 27626, 46152, 83445). Doubtful as valid species; could be hybrid between a Barbus and a Varicorhinus species (Ref. 27626, 35818, 46152, 83445). Should be considered as extinct after introduction of tilapia and some Haplochromis in Lake Luhondo (Ref. 35818).
