Family:  Cichlidae (Cichlids), subfamily: Cichlasomatinae
Max. size:  12.4 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; pH range: 5 - 8; dH range: 1 - 19
Distribution:  South America: Amazon River basin, in the upper Negro River drainage in Brazil; Orinoco River basin, along the Orinoco River in Colombia and Venezuela.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  In lakes and swamps; locally consumed, smoked (Ref. 40602). Maximum length 20 cm TL (Ref. 13614).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 20 November 2020 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Occurs in the Amazon, Ucayali, and Marañón Rivers, mainly in adjoining lagoons (Ref. 9396). Exported as an aquarium fish (Ref. 9235). Occurrence in the country needs confirmation (Ref. 36377).
