Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 6 - 16 m, non-migratory
Distribution:  Western Central Pacific: Philippines and Papua New Guinea (D'Entrecasteaux Islands).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 14-14; Dorsal soft rays (total): 13-14; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 15-16. Description: Overall brown or tan, ear spot brown small, pectoral-fin base bar yellow, iris yellow. Body depth 1.9-2.0 in SL (Ref. 90102).
Biology:  Adults inhabit inshore coral reefs (Ref. 7247). Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205). Diurnal species (Ref. 52881).
