Max. size:  10.5 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 0 - 30 m
Distribution:  Southwest Pacific: endemic to New Zealand.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs in rock pools and subtidal area down to 30 m. Usually found living on brown algae (Carpophyllum and Cystophora). Feeds on small weed dwelling crustaceans.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 04 May 2010 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Specimens recorded from Northland and Kaikoura and the Chatham Is. Seasonal, it is less abundant in the intertidal during the winter and early spring months. Voucher specimen(s) held at the NMNZ (Ref. 5755). Also Ref. 45493, 45524.
