Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 10 - 150 m
Distribution:  Southwest Pacific: Australia and New Zealand.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 12-12; Dorsal soft rays (total): 22-23; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 16-16
Biology:  Inhabit rocky reefs with corals (Ref. 9710). Feed on small invertebrates (Ref. 9710). Oviparous (Ref. 205). Form pairs during breeding (Ref. 205).

Country info:  Known from mainland New Zealand, Mohokinau Is., Fanal Is., Poor Knights Is. (Cave Bay) (Ref. 35942), Kermadec Is. (Ref. 8879) and Norfolk Island (Ref. 45524). Voucher specimen(s) held at the NMNZ. Also Ref. 4855, 9710.
