Found in hill-streams, in deep run backwaters. Mainly carnivorous. Breeds in the upper reaches of river and travels down after breeding. Known as a delicious table fish in Nepal (Ref. 40948). |

Occurs in the mainstreams and tributaries of Gandaki, Koshi, Karnali and Mahakali (Ref. 57735). Found in Bagmati, Bheri, Seti and Mechi zones at altitudes of 1,440 m (Ref. 9496). Preserved in temple ponds and worshipped as a Fish Goddess; considered threatened (Ref. 12045). Also Ref. 40948, 41236.
