Max. size:  8 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  pelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: Pangani River and Tanga region in East Africa (Ref. 5331). Reports from Luapula and Kando (Ref. 5331, 41590) are misidentifications for Rhabdalestes rhodesiensis (Ref. 42032).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits rivers and lagoons, mostly quieter stretches of rivers (Ref. 4967).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 31 January 2006 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
Country info:  Type locality of the holotype of Rhabdalestes leleupi: 'Kenya, lac Jipe, Teita distr., rive N.E., alt. 1.000 m' (Ref. 42032). Known from Pangani River (Ref. 5331, 52331) and reported from Galana River (Ref. 13332). Records of this species from the Tana basin are dubious and based on misidentifications (Ref. 52331).
